Overview

Mera Peak

The ideal first time mountaineering experience offering unsurpassed views of the highest mountains on earth.

Our adventure begins in Kathmandu where you’ll enjoy a sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley and two nights luxury accommodation at the Radisson (or equivalent standard) Hotel. From here we fly to the mountain airstrip at Lukla and enjoy incredible Himalayan views throughout the flight. We’ll meet our porters at Lukla and then commence our trek, staying the first night at Phakding, right by the Dudh Kosi river. The next day we arrive at the bustling Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar. At Namche we take in our first views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and numerous other Himalayan giants. During our free day in Namche we’ll visit the local monastery and seek a blessing from the Lama before a visit to the Everest View Hotel later that morning.

With a solid acclimatisation underway, we’ll trek back through Lukla and over the Zatrwa La pass into the remote Hinku Valley. Mera Peak comes into view and then dominates the skyline as we travel further along the valley. We slowly ascend through lush forests and remote sherpa villages before reaching Tangnag and Khare where we’ll establish camps. We’ll learn and practice a variety of mountaineering techniques & skills at both these locations in preparation for our climb.

At the Mera La we’ll establish our base camp and then the next day we’ll travel carefully through crevassed terrain while roped together and set up our high camp at 5700 metres.  The following morning we leave for the summit and climb steadily as the sun rises revealing the world’s highest mountains all around us. The exhilaration impossible to describe as this challenging experience-of-a-lifetime has us standing atop a true Himalayan giant.

Our itinerary includes plenty of rest days allowing for safe altitude acclimatisation.  This is a moderate to challenging high altitude trek combined with an introductory mountaineering experience that assumes guests have no previous climbing experience. Guests with previous climbing experience will also find this expedition challenging, particularly if they are new to high-altitude mountaineering.

An experience and a sense of achievement I never thought I could obtain. If I never do a trip like this again, I will remember this as a great pinnacle in my life, something I will never, ever forget. Thank you for a beautiful adventure! And for the chance to see part of the Himalayas and it’s people that will remain in my heart forever.
