Brian Nielsen
When it comes to alpine skiing and ski instructing, there isn’t much that Brian Nielsen hasn’t achieved. With 27 seasons experience instructing skiing across North America, Europe and Australia, Brian is a fully certified instructor with Australian and Austrian qualifications.

In 1995, he commenced ski instructing at Mt. Hotham (Victoria, Australia) and received the "Rookie of the Year" award that season. It was to be the first of many awards Brian would receive during a 13-year tenure with the Mt. Hotham Ski School. Brian went on to win "Ski Instructor of the Year" twice (1998 & 2004) and "Most Requested Ski Instructor" for five consecutive years (2001 - 2005 inclusive). When Brian wasn't winning awards, he was training other ski instructors and coaching the Mt. Hotham Race Squad.

With Trek Climb Ski Aspen since 2002, Brian is the technical director of our on-snow program and he supervises all aspects of our ski improvement syllabus.

Attila Kovacs

Attila has been skiing since 1981 and started working in the ski industry in 1990. Starting out fitting boots and skis at Mt Buller, he moved to Buller Ski lifts where he worked for six years in different areas including lift operations and risk management.

First venturing overseas in 1997, Attila skied extensively throughout Canada and the United States. In 1999, Attila moved from Mt. Buller to Mt.Hotham and spent the next 4 seasons training with the Mt.Hotham Race Squad. Attila joined Trek Climb Ski Aspen in 2004 and in addition to guiding & instructing our guests also manages a range of our Aspen operations.

Cait has been a professional ski patroller for a total of 22 winter seasons at Mt.Buller and Mt.Hotham alpine resorts in Victoria. Cait has also worked a season ski patrolling in Tignes, France and another at Squaw Valley in California. In her other life, Cait works as a remote area nurse and midwife.

Cait joined Trek Climb Ski Aspen in 2008 and was a huge hit with all our guests. Cait is a very strong & experienced skier and her medical background is a great asset to the Trek Climb Ski Aspen program.

Simon Brand
Simon Brand has been a key member of the Trek Climb Ski Aspen team since 2004. A telemark & alpine skier with extensive backcountry skiing experience, Simon is a qualified Avalanche Technician with the Canadian Avalanche Association. He has spent a number of years working as a volunteer ski patroller (Mt. Hotham) and on five separate occasions has achieved a distinction in the subject of advanced life support training.

In his other life, Simon works as an operational supervisor with Victoria Police Search & Rescue. In this capacity, he regularly instructs a range of Search & Rescue courses including roping, climbing, steep snow and ice rescue techniques (mountaineering) and alpine skills (survival training). When it comes to expertise and survival in the mountains, there aren’t actually any relevant courses we can think of that Simon hasn’t completed or doesn’t now instruct. Simon has worked full-time with Search & Rescue since 1997.

An incredibly experienced and qualified member of the Trek Climb Ski team, Simon now manages and directs the many safety considerations crucial to the safe operation of our Aspen tours.

Roy Toomey
Originally from the UK, Roy Toomey made Aspen his home in 1995. These days, we struggle to find a bar or restaurant in town that Roy hasn't managed or worked in. Having looked after our guests for many years on the hospitality front, we formalised the arrangement in 2008 and Roy joined our Aspen team as our concierge.  In this capacity Roy coordinates and oversees most of our social functions including our legendary 'Schnapps Bars' on the snow. Visit Roy wherever he's working in Aspen and he'll take good care of you.

Jeff Swan
Jeff (Swanny) was a member of the Victoria Police Search & Rescue Squad for 16 years. He has extensive backcountry skiing experience and is also a qualified ski instructor with alpine and cross-country certifications. Swanny worked as a volunteer ski patroller at Mt. During the northern winter seasons, Ed has worked as a ski patroller in Canada, France and the United States, as well as skiing extensively throughout North America and Europe. Ed is also a qualified ski instructor with Canadian certifications and has been with Trek Climb Ski Aspen since 2006.

Don has spent the last 17 years skiing and snowboarding extensively throughout Canada, Europe and the United States and he joined the Trek Climb Ski Aspen team in 2002.

A talented snowboarder, Don's versatility is a great asset to our Aspen program and having skied in Aspen for over 25 years, there's not much of this vast resort that Don doesn't know. He is without question one of our most popular guides and as we keep reminding him, he’s also the oldest!

Trent McLachlan
Trent McLachlan joined Trek Climb Ski as a guide in 2007 and did such a great job we asked him to manage one of our tours the following year.

His experience includes 22 seasons working in the ski industry in a wide variety of roles including ski instructing, lift operations & supervision and race department. With a preference for teaching, he has skied all over the world and worked extensively as a ski instructor throughout Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Trent holds current New Zealand and American ski instructor certifications.

A fitness fanatic, Trent is also a fully qualified Personal Trainer and Master Trainer. We’re not sure how he does it but after a full day on the slopes, Trent always manages another couple of hours in the gym! In a short space of time, Trent has become a valuable member of our Aspen team. His professional approach and wide range of skills are a great asset to our tours.
